Vanzago is ancient, perhaps celtic origins as it would indicate the root 'an' and the ending in 'bc' of its name in the more ancient version. Us it must however be pleased, for the first written documentations, of going back testimonies to year 864. Lived for many centuries of essentially agricultural economy, it knew alternating itself of many land owners from most illustrious like the Simonetta to the many less famous ones like the Cross, the Besozzi, the Posterla, the Calderara, the Gattinoni and the Ferrario. The country never 'was not a feud', being successful also in the times more difficult to pay to the Ducato of Milan those much to maintain own independence at least formal.
The church of San Ippolito and Cassiano - reconstructed in 1859 in elegant inner lines of G. Muraglia architect - boasts ancient origins much testified in the documents from the XII century.
Vanzago had in the Middle Ages and until late the 1400's a convent of nuns, whose name is remained in the courtyard still today said 'il Monasterolo'.
Its ancients masters, whose families are themselves all extinguishing, have left between the other two splendid palaces of origin in the '500:
the said Palace 'Gattinoni', today center of the Ferrario Foundation that has splendidly repaired it in its seventeent-century lines and the Caldarara palace, recently acquired and restructured from the Commune one and today center of the Town hall.
Both palaces are encircled from great green area: first with one the splendid rich park of secular and valuable trees; the other with an area used after sport centers. The general aspect of the country is much great and, abundant, it is still the green: but that that constitutes a pearl in absolute is the presence, between Vanzago and Mantegazza, of the 'Forest of natural Vanzago', reservoir today of property of the WWF: an area of a thousand of hectares in which the aspect it originate of the forests and the Lombardic campaign of our zones comes conserved and valued with the protected presence of the local fauna, let alone with the periodic arrival of birds, it attracted also from existing small lakes. Mantegazza is a fraction of the Commune one that it has conserved a building order of main its 'district' of good ancient taste. Interesting the ancient binnacle of San Giovanni Battista in the center of the country.
